Proliferative Lesions of the Adrenal Medulla in Rats Treated with Zomepirac SodiumDirector, Pathology McNeil Pharmaceutical Spring House, PA 19477
Director, Pathology McNeil Pharmaceutical Spring House, PA 19477 Two 24-month oral (gavage) carcinogenicity studies with zomepirac sodium were conducted in Wistar rats. Adrenal medullary proliferative lesions (focal hyperplasia and benign medullary tumors) were increased in male rats. The morphological character and biological behavior of the adrenal medullary proliferative lesions were benign and had no apparent affect on mortality. Zomepirac sodium can be added to a list of chemically and pharmacologically diverse group of substances that have been associated with increased incidences of adrenal medullary proliferative lesions in the aged rat.
